Korošica is a high-mountain fluviokarst depression with a flat floor located at an altitude of 1,810 m below the southern face of Mt. Ojstrica (2,350 m a.s.l.) in the Kamnik-Savinja Alps. It was formed through the polygenetic transformation of a former glacial cirque, the floor of which was leveled by extensive alluvial deposits from a torrent that flows from beneath Ojstrica to the northern edge of the flat after heavy rains or snowmelt. Along the opposite, southern margin, swallow holes (ponors) lead into the karstified limestone bedrock. Following severe downpours, the ponors cannot drain the water immediately, causing the basin floor to flood entirely and temporarily transform into a shallow alpine lake for several hours or even days. In the narrower section with a flat bottom, the depression measures 335 m in length (oriented northeast–southwest) and 190 m in width. In its broader extent, which includes the gentle peripheral slopes, it is 403 m long (north–south) and 220 m wide. Southwest of Korošica, beneath Lučki Dedec (2,023 m a.s.l.), lies the morphologically similar piedmont flat of Petkove njive (elevation 1,699 m; 553 m long oriented northwest–southeast, 184 m wide; field survey October 2007, B. Burger). Kocbek Hut on Korošica (Kocbekov dom na Korošici) stands at the northwestern margin of the plateau. The first mountain hut at Korošica was built in 1876 but was destroyed by fire in 1881. A new hut was erected in 1882 and was subsequently renovated and expanded multiple times over the following century; it largely retained the overall dimensions and layout of its 1912 renovation until the night of October 20–21, 2017, when the building burned to the ground due to visitor carelessness. The displayed 360° panoramic photograph documents the state of Kocbek Hut in 2007, prior to the devastating fire. Following the disaster, temporary shelter was provided on-site by residential containers and a winter room, after which construction began on a new, modern mountain lodge.
The surround 360° photography shows the condition of Kocbek's home in 2007, and later the entire size was renovated. Kocbek's home in Korošica burned down on the night of 20/21 October 2017 due to the careless behavior of guests.
