The cascades of Verna and the Verna brook are situated nearby Veliki Šumik (24 m), which is the most magnificent waterfall of Pohorje.
The river Lobnica flows in many cascades through the primeval forest area. The Verna brook is a right tributary of Lobnica, creating distinct rapids that hikers must cross on the trail between the Mali and Veliki Šumik waterfalls. Pohorje itself is the southernmost part of the Central Alps, characterized by non-carbonate terrain.
