Podčetrtek is a frontier and central settlement of this area. The dominant feature and iconic sight of the settlement is the apparently mighty castle of Podčetrtek, which overlooks the town from its hill.
The settlement's history reaches deep into the past, as it was mentioned with the name Lonsperch as early as 1016. Today, it is one of Slovenia's most important tourism destinations. Nearby the settlement is a modern thermal spa and water park, attracting visitors from all over Europe for health, leisure, and recreation in the beautiful Styria region.
