Veržej is situated on the right bank of Mura river. With the villages Banovci and Bunčani consistute one of the smallest rural communities in Slovenia (12 km²). Veržej use to be the boundary market place (1342) between the Austrian and Hungarian empire. Horse breeding is very popular here for a centuries.
