stage 2: Mojstrana - Jesenice

length of realistic 'relief' route: 20.6 km

active walking time: 5 h 13 min. (3.9 km / h)

The second stage leads from the Mountain Museum in the settlement of Mojstrana, which is located in front of the entrance to the Vrata valley on the south-western side of the settlement, to the north-east towards the settlement of Dovje at the foot of the Karavanke. On the outskirts of the Karavanke Mountains to the east above the Upper Sava Valley, ascend along the macadam road to the pass Na Visokih (1223 m) and gradually descend to Plavški Rovt. From Plavški Rovt, the path turns along a bad cart track towards Planina pod Golico. From Planina pod Golico, the path crosses the asphalt road towards Jesenice and in the settlement of Prihodi it turns into a path, the former ore path ("Stara rudna pot") towards Jesenice. Above the settlement, the path goes east along the Lookout Path to a sharp bend at the Ukova swimming pool and then west towards the Jesenice grammar school and over the railway overpass towards the final part of the stage in the Stara Sava (Upper Sava Museum).

Detailed description:

From Planinsmki muzej (The Museum of Mountaineegring), on the south-west side of Mojstrana, along the road towards the Vrata valley, head along Triglavska cesta in the direction of Mojstrana. After fifty meters, on the right is the Viharnik Garden with the boards of the Mojstrana Olympians. The path leads past the Mojstrana Olympic Square and the information board of the Dovje Mojstrana Tourist Information Center and further along the sidewalk along Triglavska cesta through the settlement to the bridge over the Sava Dolinka River. Above the left bank of the river is a chapel. The path ascends along the sidewalk to the road (201), Jesenice - Kranjska Gora. From the sidewalk at the crossroads there is a beautiful view of Julijce in the direction of the Vrata valley. At the crossroads there is a traffic light with a pedestrian crossing. On the rising on the other side of the road is a monument to Jakob Aljaž with a vantage point towards Mojstrana and Julijci. From the monument, a path leads along the sidewalk to the village of Dovje. In the settlement there is a crossroads with signposts at the chapel, follow the yellow one, which leads us to the right, east through the settlement, past the house of Ivan Brencet (Slovenian patriot), the village fountain-well and on to the macadam road in the direction of the shepherd's hut on Dovška Rožca mountain.

Care must be taken when walking, as the macadam road is relatively busy due to access to the starting points of the Karavanke mountain peaks. At the sharp bend with the crossroads is the information board 'Karavanke - Natura 2000' area with the signposts Kepa (left), Dovška Baba (right). Follow the signpost to the right (Dovška Baba). The macadam road leads to the bridge over the Mlinca stream.

The folded, kilometer-long road ascent to the east opens a panoramic view to the right towards Mojstrana and the Vrata valley. A sharp turn to the left leads us to a meadow below Blaževa skala (also a sports climbing area). The bend ahead (700 m) is a wooden bench with a table from where there is a view of the Julian Alps.

The path on a macadam road with only rare views after two kilometers leads to a sharp turn to the left. To the left is a signpost towards Dovška Baba, to the right is it towards Jesenice. A forest, unsightly path leads for another three kilometers to the pass at Visoke (1223 m) and on to the mountains at Zakamnik and then another two kilometers along the forest macadam road to Plavški Rovt. In the length of a kilometer in front of Plavški Rovt there are beautiful views towards the Karavanke peaks.

In the settlement of Plavški Rovt, an asphalt road leads to Jesenice, and signposts in the settlement (hayrack) lead us to a forest cart track in the direction of Planina pod Golico (1.8 km). After a kilometer of walking, the cart track leads us to the Mlinska peč sports climbing area. From here, at first the forest cart track (stick to the one above) turns into an overgrown meadow cart track, which leads all the way to the first homestead in front of Planina pod Golico. We are greeted by a guard dog, the cart track turns into a macadam road and only this one in front of the bridge over the Jesenica stream into an asphalt road. Cross the bridge sharply to the right and continue along the asphalt road through the settlement. At the crossroads with the road Planina pod Golico - Jesenice, continue along the Old ore route (also an information board with a description of the old ore route).

The trail continues along the asphalt road towards Jesenice towards the settlement of Prihodi (600 m). There is no pavement, and due to traffic it is necessary to be very careful. In the settlement of Prihodi, at the bus stop, there is a left turn into a side road into the settlement. We follow the left cart track, which turns into a forest path, a former old ore path that descends towards Jesenice, whose first houses are two kilometers lower.

Above the settlement, the path goes east along the Lookout Path to a sharp bend at the Ukova swimming pool and then west towards the Jesenice gymnasium and over the railway overpass towards the final part of the stage in the Stara Sava (Upper Sava Museum).
