Èze is a highly picturesque hilltop fortified village, beautifully blending traditional Provençal features with a distinct Mediterranean character. It is situated at an elevation of 429 meters on a steep, rugged cliffside directly overlooking the Mediterranean Sea, located ideally between Monaco and Nice on the French Riviera.
On the absolute summit of the hill, around which the entire settlement is densely clustered, stand the preserved ruins of a small 12th-century castle. From this ancient vantage point, visitors are treated to an incomparable panoramic vista stretching across the famous coast of the French Riviera and the open sea below. The historic village has been expertly and meticulously restored in a thorough medieval style, making it one of the most popular and celebrated cultural tourist attractions in the region today. The earliest written documentation of this strategic settlement dates back to the 4th century, where it was originally recorded under the ancient name of Avizio.
