Hellbrunn is situated at Salzburg's southern city limits. The early Baroque palace was built by the Italian architect Santino Solari between 1613 and 1619 under the orders of the reigning prince-archbishop of Salzburg, Markus Sittikus von Hohenems, as a summer residence and day-retreat.
